Cook Looks to Seamers
Cricket: Alastair Cook is confident that England's seamers can emulate the Indians' performance at Trent Bridge.
The England opener Alastair Cook was last night banking on a repeat of England's bowling performance at Lord's after the batsmen struggled to reach a perilous 169 for seven. "The ball swung around and India didn't give us too many scoring options," he said.
"But if we can sneak up to 200 tomorrow and bowl like we did at Lord's I think it could be quite competitive. The water table's so high at Trent Bridge, so the moisture should keep coming up through the pitch if the sun's out. We have to believe we can bowl them out for less than what we get."
Cook hit 43 - at 22 years and 214 days breaking David Gower's record to become the youngest England batsman to reach 1,500 Test runs - before falling leg-before for the third innings in succession. "Hawkeye seemed to suggest that a few of them have been missing in this series," he said. "But it's just one of those things. Sometimes you go through runs where you get slightly unlucky decisions, then you get other days when you get given not out."
