St Helens have signed Chris Flannery, a tough Australian forward who once played almost a full match with a ruptured testicle and is currently recovering from a broken leg, to strengthen their squad for their defence of the Super League title.
Flannery, a 27-year-old who has made 10 State of Origin appearances for Queensland, is expected to be fit to make his debut next month and has signed a contract until the end of 2010.
Hull also announced the signing of a high-caliber Queenslander yesterday, confirming that the Brisbane Broncos centre or hooker Shaun Berrigan will join them next season on a four-year contract. Berrigan, 28, has won 12 caps for Australia.
Gareth Hock is out of Wigan's home game against Catalans Dragons tonight and is a major doubt for Great Britain's one-off Test against France next Friday after injuring a shoulder in last week's Challenge Cup victory over Harlequins.
