Rugby Union: Ban Deals Blow to Grewcock's World Cup Hopes
Danny Grewcock's chances of being called up for the World Cup look dim after the Bath lock was given a six-week ban for punching.
Danny Grewcock's notorious indiscipline already jeopardised his chances of being selected by England for the forthcoming World Cup. Now, the likelihood of Brian Ashton calling up the Bath lock now seems even more remote after Grewcock was given a six-week ban for punching.
The suspension begins on August 4 and rules Grewcock out of England's three World Cup warm-up Tests as well as the first two matches of the tournament - including the vital clash with South Africa on September 14.
Grewcock was banned after being found guilty of punching opposite number Thibault Privat in Bath's European Challenge Cup final defeat to Clermont Auvergne last month.
