French Open: Record Breaking Roger Federer Blows Tommy Robredo Away

Roger Federer won his 36th successive set in grand slams to breeze past Tommy Robredo and break a record he held with John McEnroe.

Robredo did manage to bring a halt to the run, but Federer moved through the gears and ran out a 7-5, 1-6, 6-1, 6-2 winner to book a place in the semi-finals. "It was a good test for me to pass," he said.

The world No1 was also looking to break another record he shared with McEnroe, a run of 11 consecutive straight-sets wins in grand slam events, however Robredo broke twice in the second set to put an end to his bid. Prior to today, Federer had not dropped a set in a grand slam since last September's US Open final, when he recorded a four-set victory over Andy Roddick.

Federer will play the winner of the game between Nikolay Davydenko and Guillermo Canas.
