The Pemba Channel is world famous for some of the best big game fishing in Africa. The Pemba channel; inn is small, delightful and very personal. It is the capable manager, Sandra Ruysenaars, who gives the inn its special character. Her warmth and good humor put her guests at ease, her cooking is outstanding, and she has made this once rather Spartan fishing lodges an attractive and comfortable place to stay.
The inn is built on the high banks above the channel. There is no proper beach, but there is a pleasant view of water, boats and Wasini Island. The Tanzanian mountains seem to loom just at the end of the water. You can cool down in the large, beautifully tiled swimming pool.
The inn has a central club house-large and sprawling with open sides. There are overstuffed chintz cushions on wicker sofas, bowls of shells, and freshly picked flowers. Marlin trophies, photos and lists of amazing catches add substance to enjoyable conversations recounting special experienc3es fishing or snorkeling in the channel.
A feeling of professionalism and purpose touches everything connected with the big game fishing here. The team work and the experience of the all- Kenyan boat crews help Pemba Channel boats to bring in more catches over 500 pounds than any other boats on the Kenyan Coast. There are three boats, each of which is fully equipped for three people to fish.
At a time. Each boat has tackle in the 130, 80, or 50lbs class. An experienced fisherman always goes with the boat to give advice or to instruct novices. Children under eight years are not allowed. There is an eight- month fishing season from August to the End of March. Being in the lee of Pemba Island, The seas are normally calm.

Sandra has made the rooms personal with magazines, baskets of toiletries, and flowers. Each Banda has a small veranda-some with views over the water.
Thanks to Sandra’s culinary skills, dinners at the Pemba Channel are memorable adventures in gourmet dining, often served on the terrace under the stars. You have the feeling that everything is done for your personal delight-especially the individual chocolate soufflé!
Just minutes away from the Pemba Channel inn is a colorful coastal market which is spread out on the site of the old British colonial outpost. Nearby, you can examine some of the terrible "black holes" of the slave trade, which are still said to be haunted.
Note: The inn is closed April- July 31. Reservations which include fishing boat booking will usually bump bookings for lodgings only.
