Grand Prix: Denmarks Nicki Pedersen scored a 24 point maximum to take the first Grand Prix of the season in Lonigo
Nicki Pedersen put on a master class to take the first Grand Prix of the season at Lonigo in Italy. The 30 year old Dane won all 7 of his Heats including the Grand Final to give himself an impressive 24 Grand Prix points. Greg Hancock turned in another consistent display to come second ahead of the evenings surprise packet Wieslaw Jagus. The Pole in his first full season at the top level stunned the crowd with three impressive wins in the qualifying Heats before beating off the challenge of countryman Tomasz Gollob in the semi finals. Reigning World Champion Jason Crump finished fourth in the final after failing to capitalise on a convincing win in his opening ride. Britain’s Chris Harris will look back on his first Grand Prix experience with pride gaining a creditable 7 points. Team mate Scott Nicholls though was badly shaken after a Heat 16 fall which cost him any chance of a place in the last 8.
