Rugby League: Kiwi's Snub World Cup Launch to Practise Haka
The New Zealand coach decided against attending the World Cup draw to help his team practise their war dance instead.
The World Cup's fragile credibility suffered a double blow as New Zealand's coach, Brian McClennan, snubbed the announcement of a contrived draw for next autumn's tournament and instead helped his team practise their haka. Australian officials, who bizarrely have initiated a "Super Pool" including Australia, New Zealand and England to provide competitive matches for television, were stunned when McClennan and his captain, Roy Asotasi, missed the official World Cup launch in Brisbane. McClennan responded to an attack by Australia's coach, Ricky Stuart, by claiming his team were busy preparing for their one-off Test against the Kangaroos today.
