Olympic Games: Sports Bosses Funding Fear

Sports bosses from the 'big five' are having crisis talks over £100m of grassroots funding being diverted to London 2012.
Senior figures from the "big five" sports are to meet today to discuss fears that the funding of grassroots sport is in jeopardy because of the London 2012 Olympics. The chief executives of football, cricket, rugby union, rugby league and tennis are concerned that an additional £100m of lottery funding is being diverted from Sport England to help prop up the budget for the Olympics. They fear it could have a significant adverse impact on attempts to develop improved local facilities and drive up community-level participation on the back of successes such as England's rugby union World Cup triumph in 2003 and the victorious Ashes campaign of 2005.
