Snooker: Dott Wins the China Open
Provisional world No1 Graeme Dott beat Jamie Cope 9-5 in the China Open final.
Graeme Dott's 9-5 victory over Jamie Cope to win the China Open enables him to start his world title defence at Sheffield on April 21 as the provisional world No1 by a substantial margin.
While his late-night triumph at the Crucible last spring was rather undervalued because of Ronnie O'Sullivan's psychological collapse in their semi-final and a long, grinding final against Peter Ebdon, it gave the Scot a huge injection of confidence.
From 2-2 yesterday Dott made breaks of 60, 72, 70 and 95 in building a 6-2 interval lead, although it was his capture of the sixth frame to open a two-frame gap for the first time that probably did most to undermine Cope's morale.
