Snooker: Lee Withdrawal Spells Win Bonus for White
Jimmy White has moved straight into the last 16 of the China Open after his opponent Stephen Lee withdrew "for personal reasons".
Jimmy White's 5-2 win over Zheng Peng, a Chinese wild card, on the opening day of the China Open carried the bonus that Stephen Lee, his scheduled next opponent, withdrew "for personal reasons", giving him a place in Thursday's last 16.
Having failed to survive the qualifying competition in any other ranking event this season, White could now finish in the top 48, exempting him from the first round of next season's qualifying tournaments.
Five of China's eight wild cards eliminated members of the 96-man main tour. In addition Ding Junhui, who won the title two years ago, enjoyed a 5-3 win over Adrian Gunnell, the world No 41, with breaks of 82, 92 and 130.
