Cricket: Yorkshire Bring Gough Back With Grayson Set to Follow

Darren Gough has been tempted back to Yorkshire CC where he is expected to take on the role as captain and contribute in a coaching capacity.
Yorkshire will today confirm the return of Darren Gough to Headingley after three years with Essex, hoping it will draw a line under their troubled winter. The 36-year-old, who moved south in 2004, is expected to be appointed captain and work alongside Paul Grayson, the former Yorkshire spinner, who is tipped likewise to make the switch from Essex in a coaching capacity.

Yorkshire were left without a captain or coach when Chris Adams had a last-minute change of heart last November, deciding to stay with Sussex. "With everything that's gone on over the winter we want to put something back into the club that would unite the team, and there are a lot of qualities about Darren that are very beneficial," Yorkshire's chief executive, Stewart Regan, said when the approach to Gough was confirmed during the Ashes. Gough made only seven championship appearances for Essex last summer, taking 25 wickets.
