It has been reported that the fight that occurred last Saturday between Ryan and Griffin O’Neal started after Ryan came home from an evening out and found his younger son, Redmond, had been chained to a staircase by Griffin. Ryan had been out with friends celebrating former flame Farrah Fawcett’s 60th birthday and the fact that she is cancer free after four months of intense chemotherapy. When he arrived at his home in Malibu he reportedly found Redmond chained to the staircase with handcuffs around his ankles. Griffin had reportedly resorted to the extreme measures after fearing Redmond had overdosed and would wake up and try and buy more drugs. Redmond later became lucid and claimed he had just been sleeping.

Ryan reportedly became angry when he tripped over the chains tied to his youngest son. It was initially reported that Griffin was swinging a fireplace poker, but now it is being reported that Ryan is the one who grabbed the poker that inadvertently injured Griffin’s pregnant girlfriend Joanna Berry. Apparently it got out of hand at O’Neal’s home and he grabbed a gun and fired a warning shot meant to scare Griffin. It has also been reported that when police arrived on the scene Redmond was still chained to the staircase. Police allegedly shot video of the scene to keep as evidence and try to piece together what actually happened that night.

Ryan O’Neal was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon and negligent discharge of a firearm. The Los Angeles District Attorney’s office will examine the evidence and decided whether or not to file charges against the actor. Ryan was released early Saturday morning on $50,000 bond.
