Cycling: Landis to Miss Tour So That His Case is Heard First in Us
Last year's Tour de France winner Floyd Landis won't defend his title in July.
The 2006 Tour de France winner Floyd Landis has confirmed that he will not race in this year's event, which starts on July 7 in central London, in return for France's national anti-doping agency, the AFLD, agreeing to postpone its hearing into his positive test for testosterone until after the case has been heard in the US in May.
Landis's case was due to be examined by a nine-man body of experts yesterday at the AFLD, which has jurisdiction only over French sports events. Instead the agency said the American had "agreed that he will not participate in any cycle race in France to the end of 2007, and in particular that he will not ride the Tour de France."
