Ryan Reynolds & Alanis Morissette Split

Reynolds, 29, and Morisette’s reps, Dvora Vener and Meredith O’Sullivan, said in a joint statement, "Ryan Reynolds and Alanis Morissette have mutually decided to end their engagement. They remain close friends and continue to have the utmost love and admiration for each other. They ask that their privacy be respected surrounding this personal matter." This is the second time the couple has called it quits.

They first called off their engagement in June, but a few weeks later were seen holding hands and looking very much like a couple. They were also spotted kissing in early October in New York City. Apparently they have been quietly trying to salvage their relationship for the past few months but it doesn’t seem that it has worked. Neither camp gave an official reason as to why they decided to end their relationship.

Reynolds and Morissette, 32, first met in 2002 at a birthday party for actress Drew Barrymore. One thing the couple had in common is that they are both Canadian. Morissette said in a past interview, "We already started off with the shorthand, so I think it’s a really great base. I attempted dating many American men. I tried!" The two dated for two years before getting engaged in 2004. There was never a wedding date set and in 2005 Morissette said in an interview, "We’re just really enjoying this [engagement] phase." Reynolds added, "We feel like we’re already married." Does that mean that now they just feel like they’re already divorced?
