When writing articles, the layout is of paramount importance. What is meant by layout is the structure and size of the article. A brief introduction of the title is the main key to a good article. Followed by the introduction the rest of the contents should be broken down into paragraphs for ease of reading. Paragraphs should not be too long or short while the same rule applies in the case of sentences. In order to improve readability it is vital to group sentences and similar items together. In order to keep the reader on track, it is necessary to have each paragraph with an introductory sentence of the previous paragraph. All paragraphs should be consolidated by theme when writing articles. It a matter of personal judgment whether extensive subtopics should be moved to individual pages or kept on one page. Instead of using sub headings, bullet points may be used making sure to avoid bold fonts. Illustrations should be appropriately positioned ensuring that they relate to the relevant text. The text of the article should be short to allow ease of editing and improve readability. It is important not to burden one part of the article with excessive information at the cost of another when writing articles.

Usually two types of styles are used when writing articles. They are news style and summary style. A prose style, briefly worded, front-page newspaper story or a news script wired on radio or television is the news style. Summary style refers to topics containing lead sections instead of sentences, with varying degrees of information especially in the case of Cricket.

When writing articles it is important to make the article accessible to all types of readers who may differ in education, background and worldview from you. Perhaps the reader has no knowledge about the subject and is therefore reading the article in order to learn. When writing articles, it is also necessary to be considerate by the reader by avoiding the use of jargon. If so, the article should briefly explain the jargon. Use of non-English words in an article should be kept to a minimum and indicated in italics. Do not deviate from the topic and pay extra attention to all spellings.
