Birmingham City Sign Luton Striker Rowan Vine
Soccer: Steve Bruce has splattered David Sullivan's porn cash all over Mike Newell's face, snapping up striker Rowan Vine for £2m.
Birmingham have bolstered their injury-hit frontline with the signing of Luton striker Rowan Vine.
The Championship leaders have agreed to pay £2.5m for the 24-year-old, rising to £3m if Blues are promoted to the Premiership. Luton had rejected an earlier offer of £2m.
Vine, who has scored 14 goals for the struggling Hatters this season, will now speak to Birmingham officials.
West Brom had been in the race to sign the striker, but Steve Bruce was determined to bring him to St Andrews because of injuries to forwards Nicklas Bendtner, Cameron Jerome and Mikael Forsell.
"We had the best goalscoring team in the country apart from Manchester United, with Gary McSheffrey, Nicklas Bendtner, Cameron Jerome and DJ Campbell," said Bruce. "They have been terrific. Now we have lost two of them and we have to do something about it.
"Vine has scored three goals against us this season. He is someone we quite like. He is a good player."
