11th Hour - Chapter 1

This will be an on going work, so over i will be posting chapters of this story of the next few weeks/months or however long it takes me. Thanks for reading.

"Come on, get the, Never mind just grab Nathen and get to the fallout shelter!" Matt Douglass screamed to his wife and Child. Matt was your average family man. He was tall probably around 6’ 4" had dark drown hair and was average size. He wore contacts, but he usually threw on his glasses. Matt wasn’t that old for having a wife and one kid, he was 26 and had graduated collage 3 years earlier. Matt had a great job, he worked at the local insurance company, and he made around 50,000 dollars a year which he spent buying thing for his home. A few months ago he bought a brand new couch, with a beautiful design pattern on it and the most comfortable thing you would have ever sat on. He also bought his son a new ATV, it was just a small 50cc, and it was all black with little designs in white doing across it.

It took Matt and Leona Douglass 4 years of saving all the money they could, they did this by going to places like Thrift shops and cheap generic grocery shops (the ones where the food never really tastes the same as the real things), and they have lived there for a little over a year now. It wasn’t the best house you’ve ever seen; it was an older one story home out in the middle of the country, 2 hours from New York City. The color of the house may have been white when it was first build, but now it has a greenish tint and spots that didn’t have the green on it was a dirty white color. The trim around the house was olive green, and the shutters were as well. While this wasn’t close to being a great house they were happy because it was theirs, and now they would have a safe place to raise there 6 year old child.

Six months ago Matt when outside to meet the mailman so he could see what was going on in the world today, he used to just watch the news but buying this house meant they had to give up a few things and television is one they both agreed on, the others were small things like smoking and buying Nathen a toy every time they went to the store. He took the paper from the mailman and on the front said that the United States military unleashed a new type of bomb on Korea. This bomb would was big, and looked like it was going to hit one spot, but when it got to its destination the bomb separates into 10 different pieces and those 10 split in half, it has the power to topple an entire state. The military did this because they had information that Korea was threatening the US with nuclear bombs and they didn’t want to take the chance of Korea letting there bombs loose on our country. This scared him so he called around to his old friends where he lived and they told him they were all going to look into Bomb shelters for him. A week later Matt got a call from a man who makes fallout shelters and told him he could have one made in 4 months, so Matt talked to Leona about what could happen and how he doesn’t want to loose either of them. Leona was an amazing girl to Matt, she had always been there for him and they were friends all throughout high school. When Matt went to collage they kept in touch but didn’t talk nearly as much, and since she was 2 grades below him he had to wait 2 years before she got to collage and then Matt noticed her, but not as he once did, when he looked at her he knew he needed more than a friendship. She wasn’t very tall, maybe 5’2" and she was pretty skinny and was just all round beautiful. Then they started to date each other week after meeting in collage. They both agreed that they should spend the money and get a bomb shelter. A bomb shelter is not the cheapest thing but since they didn’t have it built added to the house they saved a few thousand dollars, the price was 16,000 dollars, leaving them with only a few grand.

The bomb shelter took 5 months to build, and when it was done they decided to go shopping and get supplies that wouldn’t spoil to put down in there just incase something was to happen. They bought one month worth of supplies: food, water, clothes, movies, TV, and canned food items. Now some of this stuff they didn’t need, but they wanted there kid to be entertained if they had to stay down there.

They were watching CNN on there new TV when they heard news that Korea had fired missiles upon the United States and they had whipped out the bottom half of Florida and they were urging people to get to their basement. Matt looked outside, what he saw scared him so much he would never for get it. When he went out on his porch he was looking at the old cars that the previous owner never took away and he just never got around to getting the out of his yard. There was two Chevy’s both looked pretty identical and they each had only a little rust on them. Then there was just the cab of an older Chevy and it was nothing but complete rust. Matt finally looked out to where New York stood, you could just barely make out the outlines of some of the buildings. Then there was a big cloud of fire and smoke that went over the top of the buildings, he knew it was Korea firing upon the United States. "Come on, get the, Never mind just grab Nathen and get to the fallout shelter!"
