Rooney Quizzed Over Nightclub Fight
Soccer: Wayne Rooney questioned by police over an alleged 5am brawl outside a Manchester nightclub.
England striker Wayne Rooney was today questioned by police over an alleged brawl outside a nightclub.
The 21-year-old Manchester United forward was interviewed by officers investigating claims that a photographer was assaulted outside Panacea in Manchester city centre on October 15. He was interviewed at a police station in Greater Manchester and was questioned under caution but not arrested.
A spokesman for the force said a file would be passed to prosecutors to make the decision on possible charges. "A 21-year-old man was interviewed today at a police station in Greater Manchester," he said. "He voluntarily attended and was interviewed in connection with an alleged assault on October 15. A file is now being prepared for the Crown Prosecution Service."
The appointment for Rooney to attend was made after complaints from the photographer who claims he was attacked outside the club at around 5am. He did not need medical treatment after the alleged assault, police said at the time.
The United squad trained as usual at Carrington this morning and Rooney later spoke to police at an unidentified police station.
Earlier today, West Ham's Anton Ferdinand appeared in court charged with assault over an incident outside Faces nightclub in Ilford.
