Rugby Union: Wilkinson Hit By New Injury
Jonny Wilkinson has been ruled out until Christmas after damaging a kidney against Bristol last Friday.
Jonny Wilkinson's injury jinx struck again last night when the England World Cup winner was ruled out until Christmas after damaging a kidney in his most recent comeback game against Bristol last Friday.
The fly-half has been ordered by doctors to rest for a month before resuming any form of training. It is the latest blow to Wilkinson's hopes of relaunching his international career. He damaged a medial knee ligament in the Falcons' second game of the season against Worcester.
"We're all desperately disappointed for Jonny," said the Falcons' director of rugby John Fletcher. "He came back and showed fantastic form last Friday."
The news prompted sympathy in England's team hotel before Saturday's Test against Argentina. "This is yet another unfortunate setback for Jonny and everyone in the England camp wishes him all the best for his recovery," said the head coach, Andy Robinson, aware Wilkinson has yet to represent England during his tenure.
