Bell Wins Icc Award

Cricket: The remarkable turnaround in Ian Bell's career continued when he was named Emerging Player of the Year at today's ICC awards.
In July, Ian Bell was an England's reject. Now he is the ICC's Emerging Player of the Year, after winning the award at today's ceremony in Mumbai. It is quite a turnaround.

Andrew Flintoff was England's only representative in the both the Test and one-day XIs of the year. The qualification period began on August 1, 2005 and closed on August 8, 2006 and, despite their Ashes defeat, there were five Australians in the Test side: Ricky Ponting, Michael Hussey and Matthew Hayden at the top of the order and veteran bowlers Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath.

Ponting was also named the Test player of the year after an extraordinary, century-laden reaction to losing the Ashes.

Bell was recalled by England for their series against Pakistan only because of an injury to Flintoff, but he made his mark with centuries in three consecutive Tests. He beat his England team-mates Alistair Cook and Monty Panesar to the award.
