John Terry Accuses Barcelona of Cheating During Champions League Game With Chelsea
Soccer: Chelsea captain hits out at European champions, accusing their players of "trying to get others booked" last night.
Chelsea captain John Terry has accused Barcelona of "cynical" tactics during the stormy 2-2 Champions League draw last night.
Terry, who set up Didier Drogba's late equaliser, claimed that Barcelona's players spent the game "waving cards in the referee's face" and "trying to get others booked."
"It's a shame when you see world-class players trying to get others booked," Terry insisted. "Maybe Barcelona feel a bit threatened by us. They were under pressure from their own fans going into the game after losing at Stamford Bridge two weeks ago. They are a great side but we are not too sure why they are so cynical. They were waving cards in the referee's face and it's disappointing when he falls for it.
"He gave everything their way but the lads stuck together right to the end. We showed them what we are really like as a team. With the referee against us and everyone against us, we were the better side."
Meanwhile Uefa has confirmed that Chelsea will be fined for "unsporting behaviour" after collecting six bookings in last night's game. A Uefa spokesman confirmed there is an automatic punishment for any team shown five or more yellow cards in one game.
The size of the fine will depend on the detail in the reports from referee Stefano Farina and the Uefa delegate at the game, Wolfgang Thierrichter.
Barcelona could also be in trouble after their fans hurled bottles down on the Chelsea players as they applauded the travelling supporters in the top tier of the Nou Camp after the final whistle. Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard said: "I knew things were raining down but none of them hit me. There was a bit of banter with the Spanish fans and that was good."
Uefa will also wait to see if Farina mentions Frank Rijkaard's post-match antics in his report or Jose Mourinho's elaborate touchline celebrations when Didier Drogba scored the last-gasp equaliser.
Barça manager Rijkaard marched angrily on to the pitch to confront the referee after the game and had to be pulled away by his captain Carles Puyol.
