Snooker: O'sullivan Gives New Format His Approval

Ronnie O'Sullivan has backed the round-robin format of the grand prix, because you can get "humped" and still qualify.
Ronnie O'Sullivan became the first qualifier for the knock-out phase of the Royal London grand prix, which starts in Aberdeen tomorrow, by beating Marco Fu 3-2 to record a fourth straight win.

O'Sullivan expressed support for the experimental round-robin format.

"If you get humped in your first match, you're not out and people can watch the players they want to watch every day."

After maintaining his unbeaten record with a 3-1 win over Barry Hawkins, John Higgins could not be certain his four wins would carry him through Group A, in which the 23-year-old newcomer from Thailand, Issara Kachaiwong, has proved his quality with three successes in four attempts.

Kachaiwong rounded off his 3-0 win over James Wattana with the tournament's highest break so far, 142. David Gray beat Peter Ebdon 3-1 to remain top of Group G.
