Cystal celebrates one year of writing to Journey.
October 1. Sunday Night.
Hi Journey.
Hey, want to know something, Journey? I always really wanted to go a whole year and routinely write down my life and you know what? I have.
It’s been a year, J. An entire 365 days, as of yesterday. Looking back I don’t really know why I didn’t start a journal long ago. Too busy, I guess; or too short-sighted. Maybe age gives perspective.
Yeah, like I’m so old. Bet if I listened hard enough I could hear the whispered echoes of Mattie’s laugh.
Laughter. My, but the kids were full of it today. There are just a few leaves falling, but both Tee and Jack Heckstrom incited the rest of the clan that wouldn’t it be wonderful to go out and rake the church yard. No sense letting the Lord’s lawn look shaggy.
So I caved. The lesson was Jonah and the whale, and trying to escape from doing God’s will, so I figured well, maybe dragging our chairs outside on a beautiful fall day was what God had in mind. I know it certainly wasn’t what I had in mind when I came in to teach this morning, but you know, sometimes you just have to flow with the go.
And that half hour outside was precisely what I needed to boost my spirit. I let the children each pick up as many leaves as they could in five minutes. Plus, I secured a commitment from them that in three weeks they’d actually come to Sunday school early and we’d rake for real. Believe me, J; by then there’ll be baskets of leaves to rack
I’ll have to remember to send a note home with them the week prior, so their parents can lend a little help in remembering the rake.
Spending the time outside was good for me, J. All yesterday I was inside. Yes, at the shop. Of course, at the shop--where else would I be on a Saturday? It’s the end of Third Quarter, and so I needed to review a bit of extra paperwork Joni had supplied. Mostly just some reports that analyze our YTD sales, and also how we’re doing compared to a year ago. Sales are up 60% from the Q3 last year, which means not only are Viv and Dana hitting their stride, but the whole shop is really starting to mesh as a team.
Profits holding up well, too. Another quarter like this and I just might hire somebody. Wouldn’t that be a great way to ring in the New Year.
Decent run last night; think I’ll go for another tonight. Still wearing shorts and just a long-sleeved tee; no sweats yet.
Goodnight, Journey.
