Guess where Brandon is?
Hey guys. Sorry it's taking me a while to write but I have been pretty busy lately. My school starts on Tuesday so I'm going to be even more busier so please bear with me! (: I'll try to post as much as I can! :)
-Hilly

Amber's POV
Where's Brandon? His video games are here, all of his get well balloons are here but where's Brandon?

I went into the hallway, trying to find someone who may know where Brandon is. Thankfully I bumped into my dad within 5 seconds.

"Dad, where's Brandon?" I say panicking.
"Sweetie, there are good news and bad news. Bad news is that Brandon is already at the airport and is going to be on a plane to San Francisco but good news is that there's a 99.9% he's going to walk again!"

I couldn't help but to jump for joy but at the same time I couldn't help but to be sad since I didn't get a chance to even say bye to him.

I looked at the time on my phone.

"Hey dad, what time is Brandon's flight going to be?" I asked.
"I think he's leaving tonight at 8 pm."
"Is it alright if I go to the airport to say goodbye to him?"
"Just be home by 10 pm. I got to go see another patient. I'll see you soon." He gave me a kiss on the forehead.

I quickly gave Brandon a quick phone call.

"Hello?" he said.
"Brandon! I'm so sorry I didn't come from school right away but where are you? I want to see you before you leave!"
"Are you sure you don't want to be with your new boyfriend?" he said coldly.

Huh? Boyfriend? Who is he talking about?

"My new boyfriend? Brandon, are you okay?"

"Wouldn't you like to know." He hung up the phone.

What the hell is going on? My mind is racing with many thoughts. Why is he like this? Did he find out about me eating ice cream with Michael and if so, how? This can't be happening.

I quickly gave Tiffany a text.

"Hey Tiff, any idea where Brandon could be? -Ambs"

I immediately got her text back.

"I think he's at his place packing up for San Francisco. And guess what? RYAN ASKED ME TO HOMECOMING (: - Tiff"

I texted her back.

"Congrats! I always thought you two will make a great couple! (: -Ambs."

I quickly ran to Brandon's house. Thank god the hospital is only a couple blocks away.

I ran up to Brandon's porch and rang his doorbell.

No answer.

I started pounding on his door.

"BRANDON! IT'S ME AMBER. PLEASE OPEN UP!" I started screaming.

The door opened. It was Ryan.

"Is Brandon here?" I asked.

"Umm, Amber, you should go home. Brandon's kind of busy right now. I'll tell him to call you."

"Fine," I said. I didn't want to argue.

I walked back to my house. As I opened my door I hear...

"SURPRISE!"

Brandon's POV
I'm sitting in a wheelchair in front of Amber with a present and flowers in my head.

She stares in shock.
"Well..." I begin to say. "Surprise?"

She remains standing still. Speechless.

Her mouth finally opens.

"What's going on?" she finally asks.

"I-I wanted to surprise you. For your birthday." I respond.

Actually, that's a lie. I only got flowers and a gift in my hand to ask her to homecoming and be my girlfriend before I leave but I can't get it out of my mouth. It's already awkward that she was standing in front of me for a few minutes, speechless.

"O, uhh thanks Brandon but my birthday is in 5 months..." she says.

I just want to get out of her house.

"You want something to drink?" she finally says.
"No thanks, I'm fine." I say.

She rolls me to her living room and takes a seat on her couch.

"So....you're leaving tonight?"
"Yup. My flight is at 11pm," I say.
"Oh I see. I'm going to miss you buddy."

Buddy? O great. Are we never going to become more than friends?

"Yea.. so.. sorry if I scared you about the whole leaving thing and the whole new boyfriend thing... I kind of just wanted to surprise you. For your birthday."
"O, it's okay," she says. "So when are you coming back?"
"Around Valentine's Day."
"Oh, that's nice.
"Yup."

There was another silence that lasted for about 5 minutes.

"Well... it's almost 7. You hungry?" she asks.
"I'm good," I say.
"Brandon Charlton is not hungry?" she teases. "I'll make you something anyway." She gets up and goes to the kitchen.

Ever since my accident my appetite has changed. I usually would eat literally every hour with a total of 5,000 calories a day. Since I am stuck in a wheelchair or in bed, I only eat 1,750 calories a day.

Amber comes back with 2 PB&J sandwiches with 2 glasses of milk on a tray.

"Hey it's your favorite," she says, smiling.
"Thanks," I say. I couldn't help but smile. She just makes me really happy.

She starts to stroke my hair and I start to play with her hands again. It's strange how we just start doing what a boyfriend and a girlfriend would do when we will just remain friends.

"Why did you leave me with Chase that night?" she blurts out.

I paused for a minute. There's no way I'm going to tell her the truth.

"Because..." I start to say. "I wanted to leave you guys alone. I felt like I was going to intrude and I thought you might like Chase."
"Oh..." she starts out. "Then why were you all of a sudden angry when he asked us for a drink?"

I have no answers to her questions at all. I didn't want to explain to her the horrible things that had happened before.

"Ambs, it's complicated. Let's just worry about now."
"I agree," she says as she takes a bite out of her sandwich. "I just keep on thinking about it, that's all. Sorry."
"No no, it's fine."

We spent the next hour or two just hanging out like good friends.

"Hey, it's almost 9 you should probably get going," she then says.
"Yea. I should." Even though in my head I didn't want to leave at all.
"I'll walk you home."

She rolls my wheelchair and walks me to my front porch.

"Remember that window?" she starts to say. "That one time when you first moved here you had already broken it with your football."
"Haha yeah but that's when we met." She and I started to laugh.
"Well..." she then says. "Good luck in San Francisco. When you come back I hope to see you on your feet."

She gave me a hug. If only that hug was longer.

"Thanks," I say as I unlock my front door. "Call me every night?"
"Of course!" She smiles.
"Bye Ambs. I'm really going to miss you."
"Bye." And she walks back to her house.

I roll my wheelchair inside my house. Ryan's sitting on my couch waiting for me.

"So, what happened?' he asks.
"Nothing. I chickened out and said that it was for her birthday," I say to him. "It felt way too awkward."
"Aww man, I'm sorry for you but that was your chance. Anything could happen when you're gone."
"Yeah but hopefully nothing does."
"Hey, sorry, I got to get home. My mom cut my curfew. I'm going to miss you, dude. Stay in touch and don't worry, I'm going to keep an eye on your girl."
"Thanks bro. Bye."

Ryan left and it was just me in my house. I roll my wheelchair to my room. Thankfully my parents have made a ramp upstairs by the time I got home. Once I got to my room, I immediately started to check if I have packed everything. There was one thing missing: a picture of me and Amber. I quickly gave a look at that picture.

For all the regrets I have made, I think leaving for 3 months and not telling Amber how I feel will be the biggest regret I have made so far.
