11:11pm Ch. 1
Amber and Brandon are really good friends. Every night they would make a wish at 11:11 pm. However, when they got to high school, they grew apart. Now, they are seniors. Hopefully everything will go back to normal before they both leave for college.~~~ This is my 1st story! please comment (:
"Look!! It's 11:11" I exclaimed.
"Amber, you silly! you always make a wish but it's not like they come true the next day," says my friend, Brandon.
He was right, it is silly for me to believe that if you make a wish at 11:11pm that it will come true the next day. However, I can't help it. When Brandon first moved next door, we would hang out almost everyday, especially during the summer. At night, we would have camp outs in either his or my backyard and look up at the night sky. When the numbers on our watches turn into 11:11pm, we would close our eyes and make a wish.
"So, at least I didn't break another window with my football" I said.
I remembered the first time I met Brandon. We were both around 10 years old that time. I was sitting outside my house on a summer afternoon, wishing I had someone to play with. All of a sudden I heard a glass shattered. I was a curious kid so I went to the bushes to see what was going on. There was a lady and a boy. The lady seemed to be quite angry.
"Brandon Charlton! How many times do I have to tell you to be careful on where you throw your football?! We've only lived here for 3 days and this is the 2nd window you have broken!" yelled the lady.
"Sorry mom, I promise to be more careful." the boy said as he picked up his football.
Just as I was about to walk back to my house, something hit my head.
"Ow!" I screamed
"Sorry. Are you okay?"
"I'm okay. Hi I'm Amber. I'm your neighbor"
"I'm Brandon. I just moved here from Texas"
"Can I play with you?" I asked, trying to not sound too desperate.
"Sure! It's kind of hard to play football by myself." Brandon said.
And that's how we met. We became good friends. We were always there for each other and enjoyed each other's company. I remembered in 6th grade, when my other best friend, Alice, had to move across the country, Brandon was there to comfort me.
"Don't worry Amber, I'm here" he will say. Those words have reassured that I still have another best friend that I can tell secrets too. During our years in junior high, we would do homework after school together at my house. When we were done, we would go to Brandon's house to eat dinner since my parents were always at work at night. After dinner, Brandon and I would be in his room playing video games until it was 10. I would then shower and get ready to go to bed. However, before I go to bed, Brandon would call me or I would call him and we would both look out our windows to see the night sky until it was passed 11:11pm.
But those were the good old times. Once we started high school, everything changed. We would try to hang out after school but he would have football practice while I did homework. When he gets home from football practice, I would be leaving for my night class. Brandon had grown more popular and I had found a group of friends so we don't hang out at school. We haven't even have a single class together ever in our high school years. On Saturdays, I would be working at "Sparkle Cupcakes" and then go to volunteer at my local hospital while he would be working out and then partying. On Sundays, he would be working at "LA Fitness" while I would hang out with my friends. Basically, we had very opposite schedule. We were even busy during the summers. I would drive up to Northern California to visit my cousins during June and July while Brandon would be in Texas visiting his. During August, Brandon would be at football camp for as I would be volunteering at the public library. The only time we got together was over the phone at night from 10pm to 12 am. At least it's better than losing him for good.
"Hey!!" he said. "That's only because the receiver was far away so I had to use all my strength but I used way too much that the football hit the classroom window!"
"Sure Sure" I said sarcastically.
"How has your last day of summer been?"
"It was good. Just the usual, volunteering."
"Man, Ambs, you got to loosen up a bit and have some fun." He said.
"And you need to be serious sometimes" I said.
"I'm serious when I need to be, but you, you are just over the top"
"You serious? Since when are you serious? "
"I'm serious when it comes to school, my family, and our friendship. Speaking of our friendship, you want to dumb down a little bit for me? That way we would have a chance to have a class together."
"Okay fine you can be serious at times. And hey!! Brandon, you are not dumb!"
It's true, although Brandon is a football player and is going to be football captain and also star quarterback, he is not dumb. Brandon is at least a 4.0 student but just that we had signed up for different courses and APs. The only 2 classes that we have that are the same are AP English and a math course but we never got put in the same period.
"Compare to you, I am dumb. You and your 4.5 GPA for 4 whole years. I don't get how you can be serious every day of your life. Ambs, this is high school you do have to live sometimes."
"I do live Brandon."
"Then how come I never see you at dances or parties then?"
"Because I have other things to do"
"Like????"
"Like work"
"Come on Ambs, you don't have work that much"
The truth is, I usually don't enjoy dances. The last dance I've went to was in 8th grade. Many kids were going with dates so Brandon and I decided to go together as dates. It was probably the most fun we ever have had. As for parties, well, I never really got invited to any.
"Yes, I do," I said, lying.
"No, you're lying. I can tell. Why don't you come to Chase Andrew's back to school party this Saturday?" he asked.
"I'll see." I said. I looked at my watch. "Hey, we should go to bed. First day of being a senior is tomorrow and you don't want to be sleepy on the first day"
"Okays. Good night Ambs. I hope this year we will get to hang out more." He said.
"I hope so too." I said. "Good night Brandon."
"Good night Ambs." And then I hung up the phone.
I stare out my window. I hope my wish will come true before high school ends.
"Amber, you silly! you always make a wish but it's not like they come true the next day," says my friend, Brandon.
