Babayaro Facing Three-game Ban Over Kuyt Clash
Soccer: Celestine Babayaro could face a three-match ban after he was charged with catching Dirk Kuyt with an elbow during Newcastle's defeat to Liverpool.
As the fallout from Newcastle's ill-tempered defeat to Liverpool this Wednesday continues, Celestine Babayaro has been charged with violent conduct for apparently catching Dirk Kuyt in the face with an elbow during the game.
The incident was not seen by the match officials but was caught on video and highlighted in reports of the game.
"According to fast-track procedures for such cases, along with the charge Babayaro has been offered the automatic penalty of a three-match suspension," read an FA statement today. "He has until 6pm on Monday 25 September to respond to the charge."
The charge follows ongoing recriminations between Craig Bellamy and Newcastle coach Terry McDermott over an argument in the tunnel after the game.
An independent disciplinary commission will hear the charge next Tuesday.
