Police in Singapore Block Opposition March on Meetings

Singaporean pro-democracy activists took advantage of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank meetings to demand greater freedom of expression from their government.

Eight members of the tiny Singapore Democratic Party (SDP) yesterday spent their second night on a street corner surrounded by police blocking them from marching to parliament and the venue of the financial institutions' meetings.

Chee Soon Juan, leading the illegal protest, said the only reason they had not been arrested was because the eyes of the world are currently on Singapore.
