1. Understand the dangers and side-effects involved with dieting - Dieting do have some side effects and you have to understand what your diet that you want to go on involves. Doing so will make sure that you don't hurt yourself.

2. Consult with your doctor - It is very important to see your doctor before going on a new diet. She will be able to tell you whether the diet will suit you as an individual and what risks and side-effects you can expect.

3. Choose a diet that is healthy and balanced - Doing so will limit the bad side-effects and will also help you lose weight safer and healthier.

4. Keep well hydrated - As some of the weight loss form dieting is actually water loss, you will have to drink lots of fluids to avoid becoming dehydrated.

5. Take your exercise easier - As your calories are limited on a diet you shouldn't exercise too hard or you may become exhausted.

6. Don't go on crash diets for too long - try to limit the amount of time you spent on crash diets. Crash diets are unhealthy and may have some adverse side effects on you
